The mass of the cult population got pretty amazed when the posters of "The First Bloomsday of Ponta Grossa" were left on many parts of the city. Those people, of course, didn't get the chance to meet the brain behind the plan. This guy who had the incredible idea of bringing James Joyce's masterpiece Ulysses to discussion, at Cultura Inglesa, known as the best english school ever. This guy is Miguel The Mocker, pretty intelligent guy, and the idea seemed to be working out for the rest of the world, so, why not try it here, in our city...I'm not gonna get into that issue, but the result of that combination was: two skinny guys (Miguel the Mocker and Bruno the Funny Guy) in front of many intelligent people, not trying to explain the book, but clearing up how James Joyce wrote it, and many many parts of his life that most people don't even know. And it was ok for people to not have read the book yet, because nothing was revealing on the lecture.
It started pretty amazing, not letting people out of the group, everyone got the chance to express themselves, speak their minds, talk about other books and the things that most impress them about the way that writers compose their masterpieces. It was not all about Ulysses tough; they talked about his other books, such as Dubliners, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Stephen Hero and more.
Techniques were discussed too. The most incredible thing that happened, was, actually, how those two fellas explain to people that James Joyce piece is not pornographic, just controversial, in several ways. At the end of the lecture, we all got amazing bottoms of James Joyce, and also a free snack, a bologna sandwich, that tasted delicious. For those who have no health problems (like ulcer and diabetes, and other things) they had Irish Coffee. Irish Coffee, is, for general knowledge, a coffee spiced with wiskhy.
In my opinion, it all turned out to be great, and it was a hell of a lecture! We all just have to thank Miguel and Bruno, and Cultura Inglesa for bringing us the Bloomsday, that for sure will be celebrated next year (at least we hope so). Now, don't you wanna live in Ireland, and walk by those streets that one day, Leopold Bloom has walked? We all want that.
Amanda Pertinhes, who sat on the very first row, came up with a review of the event. Thanks Mini!!! And we would also like to thank all the fellas who showed up that Saturday and made it so great for all of us. Thank you a whole fat bunch!!!
